Category:Driving
Players:1-12
Age Rating: 3+
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Nintendo
Release date:11/04/2008
Control method: wii remote, Wii wheel, GameCube Controller,Classic Controller

SYNOPSIS:Mario Kart Wii comes with the intuitive Wii Wheel, which makes it easy for novices to compete against veterans, so no one is left in the dust. And with a broadband hookup to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, players can compete with up to 11 other drivers from around the world for racing dominance. The game includes 16 new courses and 16 classic courses from previous Mario Kart games. For the first time ever, players have the option of racing with either karts or motorbikes. Players can also hit the road as their personalized Mii caricatures in addition to the handful of classic Nintendo characters found in the game. True to the series, the game features tons of racing, plenty of power-ups and oodles of objects for players to use to slow down other drivers. And 10 battle arenas keep players busy between trips around the circuit. Mario Kart Wii supports four different control options: Wii Remote with or without the Wii Wheel, Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller combo, Classic Controller and even the Nintendo GameCube controller. So there's bound to be a configuration that fits everyone's style. Mario Kart Wii launches with a new channel added to the Wii Menu to enhance game play: The Mario Kart Wii Channel. This new channel builds on the online community of Wii owners and lets players compete in tournaments, check worldwide rankings, see when their friends are playing and download ghost data.

-mohsi-'s Mario Kart Review ] (Thanks to Samus Aran for Review)

Lets start form the top. When you open up the box you are greeted by the game and plastic wheel. The plastic wheel is actually quite heavy for its size and feels really sturdy. The Wiimote fits well into the slot, but the button on the back that acts as the B Button feels like a little piece of plastic. The remote doesn't fall out of the wheel due to some little plastic thingies, but those arn't important, what is important is the game play.

The start up screen is fairly simple and the menu is easy enough to move around in and select what you want. So far I have tried most of the 50cc races which are kart only and a few 100cc which are bikes only. Talking of the bikes I'm not really a fan of them. Yes they go faster and pull wheelies but its nighon impossible to steer, and if you do mangae to steer you usally over do it and go into a wall. I suppose it's like Marmite some people will love the fact that they can pull speed boosts every where and some won't due to the fact that they hardto steer.

The karts themselves have a good range each character having three to choose from (This may change later on but I haven't got that far yet). Most of the characters are returning from the last two games with some new characters in the mix. But how does it look? I hear you ask. Well I'll tell ya

Most of the landscapes and traxk are pretty spectacular and good to look at, only problem is, when you do look at them you forget your racing and crash. The courses are well done and fairly interesting. Lots of the old courses are there from DD and MK. Some of the new tracks arn't exactly new they just got a face lift i.e. Mario Cuircuit looks roughly the same.

The racing aspect of the game again is a bit of a difficult one to cover. At first trying to steer with the wheel is a nightmare. You end up weeving everywhere and crashing trying to find your feet. People like me who are so used to "joystick racing" can find it difficult to get used to the new controls but luckily you can still play with either the remote and nunchuck, classic controller and even the gamecube controller so hopefully everyone shouls be happy.
Snaking in this game has almost gone, but on a couple of occassions I managed to pull a few sneaky ones. Snaking has pretty much been replaced with the use of "Tricks". This is a new feature to the MK series andlets you get speed boosts by flicking the wheel up on a jump. Personally I feel it's a bit unnecessary and is only useful for racking up lots of boosts. Quite a few courses let you do about 3-6 jumps in a row each giving you a decent speed from each and easily pushes you into the lead. Many of the courses have half-pipes that let you boost over and over again which can be annoying when your oppent just gets past you on the final lap.

Big question though. Will you like it? It really depends on a matter of things. For example, I like the game, but the screen can get overcrowded a bit on small screens, and the drifting is a bit hit and miss sometimes. You will probably like this if you enjoyed MK DS as it has similar game play. If you didn't enjoy MK DS I would still recommend it as it the same price as any normal game (£35).

There are some new items, but to be honest there not that great and you need to focus on the driving more than on the item side of things. The spiny sheel still remains as it has been for ages now . The new mega mushroom is quite neat as you grow to a huge size go faster and crush everyone in your path.

I've taken the time now to play a bit more with the game. I've played most of the levels again and spent around 40mins on online, and I'm pretty pleased with it. Logging onto it was no hassle. It took les than a minute to find TWELVE people (that the max you can have) just on my continent, let alone worldwide. There was no lag in the play at all and no-one disconnected during play due to the fact that you can't. It has a point scoring mechanism, but I think this is just for bragging rights and not much else.

One feature in the Wi-Fi mode lets you make MK part of Wiiconnect24 and get updates such as best ghost times around the world, new competions happening etc. This could be a promising feature but at the moment it doesn't seem to do that much. You can check you Time Trial scores against world rankings to become top in the world.

This game really shines in multiplayer mode and online as the single player mode really need something to make it special like what SSBB has done. This game really should appeal to all fans of MK, but then again some may buy it and hate it.So it's your call.

Graphics - 9/10
Gameplay - 10/10 (If you can play it you'll love it)
Single Player Game - 6/10
Multiplayer - 10/10
Online - 10/10 (So far no problems with it)

-mohsi-'s Red Steel Review

Story Plot 8.3/10

Your fiancee has been kidnapped and her father - a Japanese mafia kingpin - murdered by a rival gang. The only way to save your loved one is to journey from Los Angeles to Japan and confront the Tokyo underworld. The story is rather simple....

Gameplay and Controls 8.7/10

As you would probably expect, you use the Wii Remote as a pointer and move with the Nunchuk. The B button is used to fire and Z is to lock on. Various wii remote movements are used in gameplay, like pushing forward to go in Freeze Time mode.

The Nunchuk is also using motion controls, for example swinging it down to open doors and pick up weapons.

All these controls actually work perfectly with not one mistake. Well, sometimes the game does not pick up when you try to open doors.

When it comes to sword fighting, the controls suffer a little. The game does not always mimic your movements which can lead to losing a fight. Parrying (with the Nunchuk) is also sometimes near impossible!

Graphics 9.3/10

The graphics are brilliant for the Wii, seeing as the game is a launch title. The character models are a little dodgy and the framerate is slightly jagged but the detail in the levels is fantastic. Just look at the water effects......

Lasting Appeal 8.8

Red Steel has 16 levels, the difficulty is unbalanced, which will keep you goin for rather long. But after you have completed the game, there really is not much left to do! Mid, there is a rather good two play in the game that is nearly as good as N64'S GoldenEye.

Score = 90% Gold Award

SYNOPSIS:ES 2008 has been redesigned to make incredible use of the motion-sensitive nature of the Wii's control system. The player has more control over the on-screen action than ever before, and in line with such advances, Konami has also unveiled an all-new pack design that conveys the unique in-game visuals and ease of use while maximising its use of cover stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Owen. Crucial to PES 2008 for Wii is an all-new control system that truly elevates the level of control available to the player while retaining the depth and intuitive moves of the series. Making use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, the player must also consider the movements of their teammates around them. The Nunchuck is used to move the current player, while the Wii Remote is used to pick out players to send them on runs or to receive passes via simple click and drag system which uses arrows to show the path of the run, and a press of the 'B' button to complete the move.

SYNOPSIS:Players grab the controller like a racket and swing – the game will register forehands, backhands, volleys, lobs, slices, spin and power depending on how fast the user swings and at what angle. Don't worry about moving around the court to get to the ball – the game automatically moves players into position. Baseball (1-2 players): Grip the controller like a bat and swat fastballs out of the park in a home run derby. Timing and bat speed will make all the difference between going yard and whiffing, so keep an eye on the ball and swing for the fences. In the two-player game, one player pitches and the other bats. Golf (1 player): Step up to the tee, hold the controller like a golf club and swing naturally to smack the ball onto the green. The harder players swing the club, the farther the ball will fly, so be sure to take some practice swings before going for the pin. After reaching the green, line up putts carefully, practice the stroke and try to hole out.

There is also Two player split-screen mode lets you race against a friend to show who is king of the road!. Only Mario can save the day ... but he can't do it alone. The newest chapter of the Paper Mario story isn't just out of this world ... it's out of this dimension. The game features Dimension-shifting gameplay, so you can shift between 2-D and 3-D with a push of a button, it comes in handy when it seems there is no where to go, or a puzzle that needs to be solved in 3-D, also a great storyline and controls as Hold the Wii Remote sideways and control the game in classic Super Mario Bros. style. Super Paper Mario youcan shake the Wii Remote to pull off stylish Mario moves like breaking out of frigid ice, and even point directly at the screen to get helpful hints from their super sidekick. Not only that, but in Super Paper Mario they'll play as Peach and Bowser, both with their own sets of essential skills!

SYNOPSIS: This is a puzzlele game like monkey ball, except that you can tilt the levels nearly 60 degrees. It features a steady hand and a keen strategic eye are key to keep your favourite ball on the right track in Kororinpa. Whist progressing along the course, players must also collect all the Red Crystals to unlock the goal, which in turn unlocks the next maze adding yet more precision and strategy to the challenges, to prove yourself as the ball master, you can also go head to head against a friend using one Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller, splitting the screen either horizontally or vertically.
